Here are some basic maintenance tips for home owners:
Keep organic material away from siding
Clean gutters at least once a year, especially if you have trees near your house.
Change your furnace filter twice a year
Smoke detector / fire alarm batteries should be checked at least once a year
Chimneys should be checked once a year as part of a winterization, especially true if the fireplace is used regularly
